UPDATE
Since my unit was definitely burned, I decided there was nothing to lose if i opened it...so I did.
Opening the unit required the drilling of a rivet. This was drilled only enough to get the mechanism off...allowing the rivet head to remain in the unit (it's visible in the face of the MeatTender).
Sure enough, heater HA was totally cooked and now an open circuit. Access to the heater wire required the drilling of yet another rivet. I managed to get to the heater wire and unwind it off the bimetal strip. Thankfully the break in the wire was at the soldering point which left the entire wire intact.
This is where the tricky part came in...determining the type of wire. Using length, gauge and resistance, I figured it out to be enamelled NiChrome 60 resistance wire, SWG 40 (not AWG).
I rewound the heater HA exactly as it was and reassembled everything...the drilled rivet to access the heater was replaced with a special 'nut'/bolt.
My Meat Tender is now working perfectly again. Its precision also checked out within 10F.
If anyone would like a how-to write-up with photos I'd be glad to prepare one. I also have 48ft of NiChrome wire left (minimum order was 50ft; MeatTender only requires 1ft)...I'd be glad to send out the required 1ft pieces until the roll runs out.
If anyone needs their MeatTender repaired but doesn't want to attempt the repair, I'd be happy to help...
I am so happy to have my Tender back!!!
