4th GRADE POSTER CAPTURES 2ND PLACE at REGIONALS!

Fourth grader Weston Lyons' "Water: The Cycle of Life" poster has won 2nd
Place and a $50 cash prize in regional competition between 11 counties.

Weston originally entered the poster contest with his classmates in Kathy
Wall's class at Ballentine Elementary in Fuquay-Varina.

Along with his parents and teacher, Weston was invited to the Conservation
Awards Celebration sponsored by the Wake Soil and Water Conservation
District. Weston's poster was spotlighted and he received dinner, a framed
certificate, and shook WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner's hand.

In May, Weston and all the Top Ten poster winners and their families are
invited to a special Canoe & Kayak Adventure on Lake Crabtree sponsored by
Lake Crabtree County Park and The River Guardian Foundation.

Keep up the good work Weston!

Weston took real photographs showing stormwater flowing into a building’s
gutter downspout, across a parking lot, and into a stormwater retention
basin. Here, the stormwater is captured to prevent flooding and to allow
the water to slowly soak into the soil for use by plant roots and to
recharge groundwater. For extra brownie points, Weston named the building
in his poster after his local “Wake Soil and Water Conservation District.”
