If you have a position on whether Newton installs synthetic turf on over an acre of playing fields within 500 yds of the Cheesecake Brook (and within 1/2 a mile of the Charles River), here is an opportunity to speak up about it.
Happy birthday America!

Dear Better Action Now Friends,

This is an update and CALL TO ACTION!

The City administration has to jump one last hurdle in order to finalize the plan for the ARTIFICIAL TURF at Albemarle Field. It is the Newton Conservation Commission meeting on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 7:00PM.

We need you to ATTEND the meeting on Zoom. Here is the Zoom link to the agenda and attachments. https://www.newtonma.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/120955

Agenda Item 8. (8:45p) 250 Albemarle Rd -- Notice of Intent – Albemarle Park fields and courts – DEP File # 239-??? • Owner/Applicant. Luis Perez Demorizi, Newton Parks, Rec & Culture Department • Representatives. Megan Kearns, Weston & Sampson

Our letter of concerns is on pages 80 - 86 of the document linked above.

PLEASE JOIN THE ZOOM. You can speak. You could be as brief as, "I am a Newton resident and I am concerned about more flooding and the long term harm that stormwater runoff from a large artificial turf field at Albemarle Field would have on the health of the Cheesecake Brook.”

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SPEAK, would you be willing to “cede your two minutes” to our experts?

  • Professor Kristen Mello (Pages 69 - 79)

  • Dr. Kyla Bennett (Pages 88 -94).

We expect the commission will take comments from them on July 8th.

Please RSVP to this email to let us know if you can attend and whether you plan to speak so we can be in touch about meeting strategy.

Thank you so much,

Barbara, Ellie, Melissa and Nathan for Better Action Now on Artificial Turf
