Does anyone have more in-depth understanding of managing Google Groups?

Ideally, we want a clustered GGroups with:

Top level: core active FoLXB members (current Friend...@googlegroups.com is the nature place)
Level 2: 4 functional areas of iBAM - infrastructure (operation/tech/funding), base-building, action (campaigns), messaging (media)
Level 3: internal announcements, full membership feed back and discussion

These are our "back channels", the part that our opponents would love to get to.  So security culture is important.
