Billy's Creek Preserve (Park and Filter Marsh) is a surface
water treatment system on 57 acres that is part of a natural resource
preservation plan to control pollutants from existing and future development as
well as provide an educational community park.
The goals of the surface water system are to: reduce
nutrient loading to the Caloosahatchee River, address localized flooding,
integrate the community on environmental issues, emphasize the importance of
protecting natural resources and provide public education on stormwater
pollution. Passive park amenities have been incorporated into the project to
educate citizens on stormwater pollution as well as provide public areas for:
picnics, hiking, cycling, and kayaking.
Billy’s Creek Preserve is a cooperative effort between the City of Fort Myers, Lee County and the South Florida Water Management District.
