Dear FOBB Members,
This Thursday, October 20 at 6:00, FOBB will have its last meeting
for 2011 at the Burlington library. Bruce Ferguson and Asa Rouse will
give a presentation on Big Bone Park. I hope many of you will be
present for both the meeting and the program. There is a lot of
information to pass on to all of you.
Many of you may have felt out of the loop regarding events sponsored
by FOBB at the Park including the Salt Fest and even the Ferguson
Roast. Extenuating circumstances have led to a breakdown in
communications.
On September 10, Pat Lense was in a serious bicycling accident while
participating in the Old Kentucky Home Bicycle Ride from Tom Sawyer
State Park to Bardstown. While completing a century ride, his back
tire blew causing him to flip over his handle bars. Since he was
knocked unconscious, he does not remember the accident, but his
injuries have made both of us realize that he was VERY fortunate. He
suffered a fracture in his C2 vertebrae, fractures in his T3, T4, and
T5 vertebrae, 3 cracked ribs, a bruised left lung, a gash in his right
elbow, and a concussion. He was operated on Sept. 12, and T1 through
T6 are fused. Currently he is wearing a neck brace to help the C2
vertebrae heal. He spent 9 days in the University of Louisville
Hospital and 8 days at Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital in Florence. He
is at home healing and attends rehab at Gateway 2 days a week. We are
grateful for the prayers, good thoughts, and cards sent our way.
During that time my mother was put in the hospital for respiratory
arrest and then into hospice at St. Elizabeth’s Fort Thomas. She died
on Sept. 13. The Bad to the Bone Duathlon, September 17, went on
without a hitch because of the wonderful help I had from FOBB members,
family, and friends. The Bruce Ferguson Roast also took place October
6, and with the help of Shawn Masters and some FOBB members, it too
succeeded.
September and early October have been a blur, but as Pat works on
healing, our life is finding a new pattern, and we are learning to
settle into the changes his accident requires. I realize that
communication has been spotty, but now you know why. I hope to see
everyone on Thursday. We have a great organization.
