Hello all,

In case you didn't know....Christie Pits Park will be the place to be next weekend (and througout the summer).   Sunday May 29th is the Party in the Pits with Bike with Mike, Christie Pits Arts Festival, NANPS plant sale and the David Suzuki Foundation milkweed pickup.  Come by and plan to spend some time biking, playing, weeding, shopping, seeing some great art/music, eating and general enjoyment of our great park.

Most of the great events happening in the park are due to our awesome volunteer Jode Roberts a.k.a. Director of Fun (formally known as the Mayor of the Pizza Oven).  Through his leadership Pizza in the Park has come back with Pizza Libretto.  The dates are below....so mark your calendars.

Hope you are all well and staying cool,

Monica Gupta

> Hello Friends of Christie Pits Park. For those of you that missed the spring meeting of the Friends of the Pits, below are notes. If you're interested in getting involved, please get in touch with Monica Gupta or Jode Roberts.

> NOTES from Spring FOCPP meeting
>
> At the meeting the following items were discussed:
>
> Construction in the park: The construction work was delayed. Already completed elements include a new fence around the north east baseball diamond, two lookouts and paths and grading in the south end of the park, two new playground structures and a new wood oven. Construction in the playground/wood oven area is expected to be complete by mid-May. The basketball court is being redone and upgrades to to that area of the park will include outdoor ping pong tables. A harvest table will also be added to the area between the ovens and playground.
>
> LEAF Young Urban Forest Leaders: FCPP is partnering with LEAF this summer to develop an tree inventory and forestry plan for the park, including developing an Adopt-a-Tree program. More to come. www.yourleaf.org/young-urban-forest-leaders
>
> Permits for oven and firepits: The permit process for renting ovens and the fire pit in the Pits (and elsewhere) is unclear and unevenly applied. Many folks use the firepit in the Pits without a permit. There appears to be no immediate remedy. If anyone wants to use the ovens, call 416-392-0042. If that doesn't work, get in touch with Jode Roberts. To book the firepit call 416-392-8188. If you have troubles booking, be sure to let Friends of Christie Pits know.
>
> Bathrooms: At the meeting we were told there were no plans to improve the bathrooms in the park, despite them being in rough shape. [Update: according to the Park supervisor, improvements will be coming in the fall].
>
> Outdoor pool/Alex Duff/outdoor rink: Plans to improve the indoor kitchen/gathering space between the pool and rink are not proceeding at this time. There is a desire to make better use of all three of these facilities, which each sit empty three quarters of the year. Ideas welcome.
