RICHMOND — Virginia House GOP Leader Terry Kilgore issued the following statement regarding today's opinion from Attorney General Jason Miyares regarding the Democratic effort to gerrymander Virginia:
"Today's opinion from Attorney General Miyares gives legal weight to the obvious, common-sense reading of Virginia law. Hundreds of thousands of Virginians have already cast their ballots in this election, as the 45-day early voting period sought by Democrats is ongoing. The current general election began on September 19 and will conclude on November 4th at 7 p.m. The effort to ram through a constitutional amendment during an election flies in the face of Virginia's Constitutional and code mandated public notice requirements.
"If Democrats had a good argument against this obvious truth, they'd use it. The fact that they're simply attacking the messenger and not the message speaks volumes. Words have meanings, and the plain language of the Virginia Constitution couldn't be clearer — Virginia Democrats attempted their power grab too late for it to be legal."
