Sahar Smith & Xanthe Larsen NO SHOWS at Candidate Forum (Virtual) on Sat. June 14, Virginia House District 21
The HOA Roundtable is a unique entity in that it exists to give candidates a direct forum to address the very real concerns of voters who live in communities who would directly be impacted with the consequences of unchecked industrial development. This forum, in addition to other issues, was an opportunity for all the candidates to speak to the issues that impact property values, worsening traffic and congestion, health risks from industrial noise, the degradation of rural viewsheds due to massive electrical infrastructure, and rising utility bills that data center developers conveniently leave for homeowners to absorb. Sahar Smith and Xanthe Larsen (who has done nothing to reach out or connect with voters, or answer press inquiries, aside from blanketing the area with boiler plate mailers and text messages in the last 24 hours) have apparently chosen to walk away from that conversation.
It is equally troubling that they've ignored the full range of topics planned for the forum. Taxes, including the Car Tax voters want repealed, and Virginia’s energy policy—including skyrocketing power bills and the failed EV mandate imported from California—were all part of the agenda. Their unwillingness to engage suggests they are only prepared to discuss issues that align with rigid campaign platforms, no matter how far out of step those platforms are with the real-world concerns of District 21 voters.
