I've been a neighbor to the Manassas National Battlefield Park (Park) since 2000. Park superintendents rotate in and out, the Park neighbors know the history of the issues.
Traffic is a major issue for commuters and park visitors. Safety is also a concern. Advocating for the Park includes this and other topics. Here I'll talk about traffic.
Congressman Frank Wolf put a study of bypassing the park into legislation in the 1980's, the study of that finally was conducted in the early 2000's and the park gained nothing from that investment.
The Prince William County Transportation Comprehensive Plan has a long studied planned road called Alternate 29. Alt 29 is unique as road plans go because it factors in "park visitor experience" to the standard criteria of "congestion relief" and "safety."
This park will exist for hundreds of years, investments today will be small by comparison looking back in 200 years.
I intend to work for the Park in Richmond to help ensure the park can improve their situation rather than just hope for the best.
The short story here is to realign the existing two lanes of traffic to improve throughput, visitor experience and safety all while ensuring the Park isn't taken advantage of as they were in the earlier bypass study that changed nothing except spending a lot of money on a study.
I will work with local, state and federal legislators, D and R, to get things done.
This is important to me.
