As many of you know by now, the CNJC council approached the Friends of Yards Creek Scout Reservation group last Friday with an offer to purchase YCSR for a nominal cost and to continue to operate the camp for future use of Scouts and others.  The FoYCSR group quickly met this past Sunday along with some of our strong supporters of the group and the camp.  We basically conducted a brainstorming session to put ideas/suggestions on the table both positive and negative to begin the decision making process to see if we could ultimately purchase the camp property from the council and operate a viable camp program in the future.  Many good ideas were thrown out there and since then, Doug Walker and myself have been diligently working around the clock to research and obtain all the critical information we need to continue these discussions and finalize any decision of how we would like to proceed.  Both Terry McCarty the President of CNJC and Ian Lillien the Scout Exec. have been very responsive to our needs and have provided us with a lot of critical pieces.  We will continue these discussions in just a couple of hours with a conference call between the four of us.

 

I am scheduling another meeting amongst our group, along with the many supporters I have now added to my contact list.  I have personally spoken with many of these folk and they seem interested in saving our camp and supporting the cause.  The meeting will be held next Tuesday, December 3rd at the Brass Castle Firehouse in Washington, NJ.  The meeting will begin at 7:00.  http://76fire.org/about.html  At this meeting, Doug and I will update everyone on the progress we have made in obtaining critical components needed to formulate a decision.  We will also show what we've come up with as far as Revenue development plans and many other ideas that we've been mulling.  We will be preparing a short presentation to make at next weeks Roundtable meeting (probably our last as a complete district).  We will also make this presentation at the Joyce Kilmer and Mercer RT's through two of our supportors from the CNJC Camp Maintenance committee who have volunteered to do so for me.

 

At this point, I would like to thank you all for the comments that have been passed on and suggestions that have been made.  Please continue to feel free to contact me about this issue if you have any ideas, suggestions or concerns.  This is a time to rally the troops.  Please, if you know of others that have a vested interest in maintaining YCSR for the future use of our youth, please let them know what is going on and pass their contact info on to me.  We can not leave any stones unturned...  Stay tuned.
