The Freeze-Thaw effect at White Oak Mountain was severe today and damage is being caused by trail use (significantly worse than yesterday). Next week looks to be particularly bad.
Here are recommended times to ride: Saturday until noon Sunday late in the afternoon Monday late in the afternoon Tuesday - Sunday until noon
Please avoid riding at any times other than those posted above. Also regardless of the time please stop riding and go home if you are rutting the trail. This kind of damage will likely remain.
Remember we are riding on University property and if we abuse the trails they may close them all together until the temperatures improve.
Cottontail is closed, but still ridden by many. If the temperature dipped below freezing the night before or if the trail is at all wet, stay off of it. It is very susceptible to damage.
These directives were given to me by Keith Snyder, the land manager for SAU.
