We Have Ignition

Dear Dhamma Friends,

We are lifting off with joy on our first full day of ac electricity and the thought occurs to once again express our sincere gratitude to all of the friends who have made this super project not only possible but also reality now. May you be happy, peaceful, and well nourished. Yes, we had the ocassion to use the microwave today to heat up soup for Venerable Suvijjana and it works! We also used the rice cooker donated by our dear Dhamma Sister Karunika (known to us at the 2010 Vassa as Kemanthie) over a year ago. It works too! This morning the array received light from a bright sun in a clear sky. 

With ac electricity now, the kitchen becomes slightly more civilized for our cooks and visitors. Some of the changes for us include a slow switch to small electric appliances. Now that we can use the sun at no additional cost, we would like to slowly convert the kitchen from heating and cooking with propane to heating and cooking with energy star small appliances. Initially we would like to ask our friends to rummage through their storage in case an extra electric tea kettle and/ or coffee maker, show up. These would save us on our propane bill.

Our installer, Rody told us that the diesel generator must never run out of deisel. He suggested we have a portable diesel fuel tank that we can keep beside the generator to refill as needed. The generator tank runs about 33 hours on 15 gallons of diesel on a full load. Given we are so far from a diesel station and that we currently have no driver residing at the hermitage, it would be a great help in keeping us running through the winter months to have a diesel fuel tanklike this one:

Another change in progress is troubleshooting our dc refrigerator. We would like to turn it into a freezer so that we can store frozen food to ease the workload for our samaneris who have been cooking full-time since mid September. Little by little, with help from our friends, it becomes not only possible but here and now ....
