...anyone thats been through the addiction 'battlefield',and
successfully some way out of the other end,is (or should be!?),fairly
oblivious to the opinions or remarks of Others.I believe its a natural
process that you 'toughen' to other people's notion of what you are
and what you've been through-The 'norms' really have no idea, and its
difficult enough to fathom where or who you are yourself without the
'veil',let alone be concerned with trying to satisfy someone elses
expectations.I think its just a natural process, and probably one of
the more positive aspects of coming out the 'other side',if we
recognise it.Basically,as with any 'ground-moving' experience-we have
the opportunity to get to know ourselves better, during these times.
God Bless Alexai Sayle, the guy is and always was Funny, and lets face
it-we're ALL 'up for it',otherwise it wouldn't be fair.(I'm certain
I've heard him tell 'fattist' and jewish jokes). If I wanted to take
offence at anyones remarks regarding using or ex-addicts-I wont have
to look too far from home, and its nowhere near as amusing-as if I
would give a shit.anyway-Screw-'em! I'm 100% that since them youthful
years Mr.Sayle has had many personnel brushes with 'reformed addicts'
and a few not so lucky,at a guess....anyway (as we all agreed-he was
only joking!)
...I was listening to a radio interview, this morning about Heath
Ledger (it was Terry Gilliam on his new movie-"The Imaginarium of Dr.
Parnassis",which looks bloody good!,by the way),and thinking that
Showbiz and Entertainment has more than its fair share of people like
us (I'm talking about drugs and booze). That its a 'party' life-style
is obvious, but I got to thinking that one of the reason there are so
many fatalities is possibly due to the 'Stop-Start' nature of their
drug-use and the problems that must arise from tolerance. What with
travelling to differant towns for shows, shoots, promotions, whatever and
then returning home or wherever, would distrupt regular usage and quite
probably subject them to 'gear' of differing and unknown srengths and
toxicities (what with 'cuts')-the number of Cocaine fatalities,of
late, due to an increase in purity, has risen noticably(over here).(Not
to mention the 'special' relationships that certain stars have with
their Private Doc's).WheresYour average 'Joe-Junkie' settles
into his 'habit',usually with the same dealers and I dont suppose
this is so much of a problem-tolerance is usually sustained at its
miserable level and may change intermittantly. In fact outside of
Hospital 'jobs',which are usually down to Liver problems/
Sepacemea,ect.-very sadly, a number of deaths in my experience have
been Junkies 'making the break',having gone through a clean
period, often due to prison or even a short jail-holding but not
always, and sometimes people just making a genuine effort and breaking
resolution. Its a 'common or garden' OD,Fatal and is usually aggravated
by alcohol.A sad and unexpected end for the user and all too common.I
wonder how many times in my greedy and stupified state, I was
wandering unknowingly around that 'threshfold'-whereby the differance
between opening your eyes and going on to,well getting your next fix
together (or more likely, the money for...),is a roll of the dice.Mfk
P.s...Anyone know any more jokes!!!???
