Hey guys, I just wanted to tell you all that tonight I went to my 1st NA meeting. It was a living hell but I know I'm finally taking action to ensure all the hard work I started at Thamkrabok doesn't come undone. I took my girlfriend and it's really upset us but we knew it would and it will make is stronger, she knows what she's getting into marrying an addict which helps her understand me better.
Anyway, exausted now, just felt the need to share.
Coxy

John that is just wonderful news. Support from where ever you can get it.
You are so blessed to have such an understanding girlfriend who clearly
loves you. Embrace that and never take it for granted. It is not her job
to support you. She is doing it because you mutually love each other. Give
plenty back.

You have so much in life to look forward to with the Wedding and children
one day perhaps. They tend to change your perspective. Keep it up and be
committed. Remember you will never regret staying clean.

Will see you in Dublin in May, don't forget to check out where in our
enormous city you would like to see.

It's a brave thing you are doing and every positive step will bring positive
things back your way.

Warm thoughts Audrey

I went to another NA meeting at lunch time, it was just as hard as the one last night but I did feel better because I felt I'm actually doing something, kind of a placebo effect I guess.
However I've decided to go to a yoga class with my partner once a week and a 12 week course of counciling.
I just feel NA isn't going to be useful to me at the moment and in fact is more likely to link me into a ready made network of junkies, if I slip in their company the risk is bigger coz they're locals.
I'm going back to basics by taking control and filling my life with joy. No hiding away and not letting a decline happen..,,
Watch this space!!!!!

Don't forget the "real version" of the 700 year history Ireland has with
England. Not what you get told in schools... Having said all that, we all
still going across the border to shop at cheaper prices. Will be here for
you..

Its whatever works and different people have different personalities and
reasons for starting drugs. I personally went down the councelling route
and it was the best thing I ever did. Remember when your 12 weeks are up
you can still continue. Sometimes its good to have someone to check in with
once a month or so. Most important thing is you are taking action.. Nothing
will change unless you do! Look forward. Don't be afraid to push boundaries
and do things you think you never could. Face things. Honest you will get
stronger.

I was always told by my dad to think wot I would choose to do if I were in the shoes of the paramilitaries, I don't pretend to know enough to have a real rounded opinion but i know enough to be ashamed of what the English have done but also that in these situations innocents gets handed in at the door and both sides end up with only bad choices.

I'd like to learn for myself, these things are seldome simple and nearly alway defy explaination in sound bit.

My school never did anglo irish history butI have been blessed by my often idiotic father with an independent mind i.e it can never be depended on hahaha that's the downside of independence.

Hi John,

I don't know where I'm going to be in May but if I'm around it would be good to meet up if your itinerary allows, and more importantly if you want to!

John, you intuitively know whether NA is going to help short-term or long-term; you must focus on anything that supports and promotes staying clean.  The councilling and yoga sound really good. I've just started a short course of councilling to address some workplace issues and I find these very supportive.  Let us know how you get on.

I'm not a '12-step' man but I think one of the aims is for a lifetime of abstinence... one-day-at-a-time.

Your Sajja is a commitment to abstinence for life... whether you need to approach this one-day-at-a-time or whether you can just say 'f**k it' - I'm clean and I'm sober and I'm staying that way.  Effectively letting go of - but not forgetting - your Sajja and your commitment to a new life... it just is.  Didn't the Buddha say something about when you get safely to the other shore you can leave the raft behind, you don't have carry it around on your back for the rest of this lifetime.

As you know, and are probably sick of me saying, Kevin Griffin will be teaching at the 'Dharma and Recovery Retreat' from May 9th until 15th.  I found Kevin's first book "One Breath at a Time : Buddhism and the Twelve Steps" very helpful.  I've just ordered his second book "Burning Desire : Dharma, God and the Path of Recovery" which I'm looking forward to reading when it arrives.  One or both of these books might bridge the gap for you John?  I don't know, it's up to you.

Good luck with the nuptials John.  If stuff starts to get a bit heavy, what with planning the wedding and honeymoon, and all that that entails, don't hesitate to call (landline/mobile/skype) if things get tough... or just post a message here.

In the meantime, be well and warm regards.

With Metta,

Vince

Thank you Vince, it would be great to meet up, kinda full circle of my Thamkrabok. I think it's only my first lap of that circle lol.
Thanks again.

In fairness the English where there when it came to Hitler. So I am not
judgmental just having a laugh. We cannot compete with the soccer either.
But I do love the History Channel and reading about the past. The Vikings
where in Dublin and left a legacy. Il show you that if you have time. Or
we could just go to the zoo if the weather good.!! See what Nit would like.
We wont take up your time. Lunch and give you directions is fine. Stay
strong and we will see you in your matrimonial glory.
