I have been looking at the Thamkrabok website for a while and have
decided to take the plunge. I live in Australia and have e mailed
every contact I can find plus the Irish contacts but to no avail. I'm
keen to be there next week. Can I just turn up? Thanks so much for
your help. Jasper.

No Idea why you have had no response. But as you are going so quick here is
some helpful no's.

Mae shee rambais. Is senior nun in Thamkrabok and organizes a taxi to pick
you up from airport, you can also notify her you are coming.
ramb...@gmail.com
This is her email. Our irish website is www.templedetox.ie and we have our
contact details here. Gary is going out there with some patients on June
10th. There is an austrailian organization similar to our own and I
contacted them recently and got a fast reply. Here is their contact
details. Perhaps they are different than what you had. Also I know we have
been in undated with enquiries and ploughing through emails. But as far as
I know Gary and I have answered them all. We are in Ireland so perhaps the
Austrailian one would be more economical for you to ring etc. But get back
to me with an other questions. I will try and help or get someone to answer
if I cannot. Email mae shee though and let her know you are coming. I have
cc her on this message. Would definitely advise pick up from airport. This
is about 60euro not sure in your money but it's a two hour drive and its
door to door. Well worth it. We have a directions page with contact no's
and email address on our website for you to print of and bring with you.
You are doing the right thing. Good luck and don't hesitate to contact
again.

There's a fair few Ozzies that have been mate, I was in with a WA girl from Joondalup. Audreys defo covered it, try and keep it simple man, I done it hard in there coz I was so badly prepaired and I think that acually helped, but maybe that's a personal thing. You need time without distractions, you need to sit with your pain and not run away, weather that be physical or emotional, is horrible and boring and not glamerouse but I promise that place is a good to meet the real you and turn face up to a few truths.
As I said drop me a line if there's anything I can do to help.
Coxy

People will see the real you Christopher. You might even be surprised that they will like you.  Just be a friend to have friends.   I found that when I was there, we where all in our red uniforms.  All had addictions so it didn’t matter if you where a pilot / artist/ doctor or a junkie who was robbing old ladies handbags before you got on that plane.  Addiction has no class distinction.  What was great though was because we where all the same you got to see the core of people who they really where.  No hiding behind money or lack of, jobs or education.   You saw who was nice and helpful.  Who nursed you if you where sick.  Who understood if you where a pain in the ass and moaned and had a bad few days.  WE are stripped of all materialistic pretence and status.  No numbing of our brains.  You don’t have to find yourself out there.  You just are you.  It took me a few months back to realise this.    You have no choice.  Maybe that’s why so many of us bond and keep that bond going.  Even those who where not there the same time as we where, and we just met in groups like this one.  You just belong and understand each other, are non judgmental because you have shared something special with very unique people.  No one ever leaves Thamkrabok with out gaining something better in their lives.  I have never ever heard anyone say. I wish I didn’t go.  Only people saying I want to go back and visit to appreciate it through a clear head.

Send you warm hugs on your journey.  Keep in contact.

Xx Audrey

Hi Jasper-for what its worth I did 'just turn up' with a rucksack and
was welcomed in 'no questions asked'! I had thought that some word
had been sent via E-mail and they were expecting me,but they had not
recieved it. That was four years ago-I would attempt to make
arrangements and contact them, but I think it unlikely that they would
turn you away if you turned up on spec.(Amazing really and
truly!!!!).Good luck and Best Wishes.mfk

I was dropped off by a taxi at 3am, already sick and compleatly unexpected, I certainly wouldn't recommend doing that mate but I was welcomed as MFK was. His also right about everything he say, especially about looking inwards.

Thamkrabok is a journey,  across many dimensions.  If this your first time to Thailand, and you can afford it, spring for the taxi pickup offered by the monastery.

One of the most important issues to consider is, what are you really trying to accomplish by heading there?  Cleaning up, spending quite time working on what is that made you take the chemicals in the first place?  This is the best place to do it, as long as you are ready to "face" the music.  Best of luck!

Good luck and make the most of it. It already shows you are determined and
have good character just by doing this for yourself.

You will be fine. And meet great people.
