Hey Phil, thanks for getting this site set up!
Interested to see how well this Groups facility works. Presumably we
could have several Groups, say one for the committee and one for the
current events distribution list?
I think you've discovered most of the mechanics of google sites but
happy to share experience from Manisha UK site, if you need any other
pointers. If you haven't found the help topic yet, getting the
www.rouslench.com URL pointing to this is quite straightforward.
Re the map: it might be a good idea to show the pin for Rous Lench
Village Hall, which is set up as a business and gets a surprisingly
high number of hits (200-300) per month:
Re the Gallery: This is good but as you'll have seen, Google slideshow
is pretty basic and annoying that it ends you off to Picasa if you
click a photo, otherwise fine.
Re News: This is good and it is possible to have multiple news
categories So, could be one for village hall, one for PCC etc if
wanted (see
https://sites.google.com/site/mcwfnuk/news-feeds )
Re Site Name and anal things: We are, of course, Rous Lench Village
Hall, serving the Parish of Rous Lench and Radford (which consists of
a village and a hamlet, not two villages!). We had the previous site
set up (but never really used) as a community site, do we intend to
focus this one just on the village hall or keep it more open?
Re Calendar: This works well, the Agenda view is particularly useful
to get a forward view of upcoming events
Re Google Groups: haven't used them before. Do you as the owner get to
see how many people have accepted invitations? Just wondering if this
could replace the email distribution list eventually?
Overall .... great, could be time to get the "How your village hall
works" content up there plus bookings process, hire rates,
constitution, minutes of meetings, improvement plans etc. I guess we
could all own a section and be responsible for keeping it up to date?
Thanks
Andy
