Hi Friends of Rex,

Mark your calendars.

We are organizing a little gathering to remember our good friend Rex.  It will held in the teacher’s lounge/restaurant at Osaka Gakuin University on July 24, Saturday, between 5 and 8.  It is open to everyone at any time during those three hours.

There’ll be food, and maybe a little drink, but our main purpose will be to share Rex stories.  We’ll let you know later how much it’ll cost and give you the details.

Curtis Kelly

Hi, Curt!

Thank you so much for including me.  If I could afford the ticket, I'd be there.

Egads, you've opened up the reservoir again, and it's impossible to give you a one-sentence answer.  You're a friend of Rex.  I can't talk to anyone I know here about Rex because it's one of those, "you'd have to have been there" things.  They don't understand the depth, have no context, have no lobe that contains that kind of reference point.

However, I have some maybe good stuff to share, just a short story or two that should bring a smile as well as, "been there with Rex, too" nods, also one or two stories that are uplifting and (as it goes with "Rex stories") funny.  I think your gathering will produce stuff Rex would enjoy gathering into his whatever Angel Basket, wheel barrow, or  semi truck.  Everyone has a different idea of the afterlife:  for me, I think of myself as a leaf on a tree and am happy knowing I'll be a helpful bit of carbon for the future.  With Rex, I picture a soul too wonderful to do anything but what he always did: have a ball with life and take that with him to wherever he is:  enjoying those around him and giving much more to all of us  than we were ever able to give back.  I imagine he's a Big Man On Campus but would blush at the suggestion.

Odd, very odd, how Rex comes into my mind every day.  It's largely due to the acceptance of loss and the ever-changing grieving thing.  HOWEVER, it could be associated with the 8x10 photo of him on my wall, smack dab above the computer screen:  lots of reason why, but the practical one is so that I remember to smile whenever I answer a business telephone call.

Cutting to the chase. . .

Thanks again, Curt,
Bobbie

Hey Bobbie,

If you can’t make it to Japan, how about making a video of yourself telling a Rex story and sending that?  Or if video is hard, one by mail we can read at the party?

Dear Kelley sensei,

Thank you for organising the memorial get-together.
I will be there. I am thinking of bringing a photo of
his with his beard on.
If there is anything that I can help you,
please don't hesitate to ask me.
Many professors will be on the campus,
because it's the first "Open Campus."

Thank you again for your nice idea.

Well, Curtis, you have given me a new assignment, something I've not had the need to learn to do until now.  My Mac can do anything, the little camera always has its eye on me.  I guess it's time to learn to use the applications!  My grandboys have known how to do this since, I think, their inception.  New genetics.

Thanks,
Bobbie

Hi Curt, Got your note and although my reply may not timely be a one, it doesn't make much difference since to my utter, I can't make it.  You know I would be there if  I could . You already know my plans anyway, I'll be hooking up with Scott in Reno On  8/1 we'll save you a seat at the Blackjack table. I'll mail you directly this evening just wanted to give you a heads up regarding the 24th. Later buddy, Mick
