Greetings friends, family and supporters of Rex Tanimoto and family,
I hope this finds you all well.
Here's the latest on Rex, followed by a few comments from me...
During the past week, I have had a couple of brief email exchanges with Rex, so I am finally able to give you an overview of his condition. Though he didn't mention disease progression specifically, it is clear that Rex has been battling toe to toe with his cancer, and it seems that he has been fighting through extremely severe adverse treatment effects in the form of headaches, nausea, dizzyness and exhaustion, to name a few. Rex has been particularly conscious that he has left many of your kind messages and visit requests unanswered. He is, unfortunately, unable to sit in front of the computer for more than a few minutes at a time these days, and I took the liberty of reaffirming that his only concern should be about resting, relaxing and nourishing his body back to health. It is unclear what exactly is causing these disarming symptoms, but Rex and his doctor's have been going after it like gangbusters in order that he can quickly regain his strength and return to his normal routines of emailing, collaborating and going for daily walks. If some improvement is not reached very soon, he will be seeking a second opinion from a trusted doctor in Hawaii.
And on a more personal note...
I have to apologize for being less than on the ball with correspondence to this group's members. This summer, I was preoccupied with a couple of large-scale projects that aimed to support two of my childhood friends, both of whom have been stricken and progressing rapidly through their respective terminal illnesses (advanced refractory lymphoma, and ALS 'Lou Gehrig's disease'). Rex and some other members of this group have reached out to me and to these friends of mine, Chris and Jason, and I cannot thank you all enough for the love, positivity and MOJO that has been shared among our extended communities. This last year has been an incredible challenge, but I am confident that we are on to something with the open and candid exchange of generosity and strength.
Much love and aloha,
Steven
