Dear friends and family of Rex Tanimoto,

This just in from Mike Matsuno, on behalf of the Tanimotos and the "Celebration of Life" event organizers:

------
In addition to the "Celebration of Life" Memorial Service for Rex Tanimoto which will be held at Kaneohe Bay on Thursday, March 17 at 15:30 (3:30 pm) in Hawaii, the Tanimoto Family would also like to let you know that there will be a special military service at Punchbowl for Rex on the morning of the same day.  Rex was in the military and will have a service with a military chaplain and military honors.  The service will he held on March 17, Thursday at 9:30 am in Punchbowl National Cemetery.  It should take less than 30 minutes and is open to everyone.  Part of Rex's ashes will be put into a niche at Punchbowl.  We are not certain of the exact location, but we believe it to be on the right side of Punchbowl crater.

------

Greetings all,

I'd like to send my MOJO and appreciation to all who will be thinking about Rex today and tomorrow. Some of you will be honoring our dear friend in his beloved Hawaii, and some of you will be honoring him quietly in your hearts.

A special word of thanks to all who are involved in arranging to send Rex off properly.

...

I have been reflecting on all that I have learned from Rex and this community over the past few years; how Rex's guidance, along with the compassion and positivity of Rex's loved ones, have helped me to understand who and how I want to be in this life.

I want you all to know that this community's message has traveled far and wide via events and small grassroots movements related to supporting friends and families in their hour of need.

I will be removing my "LIVE FOR OTHERS" bracelet tomorrow--not because I will stop living for others or stop spreading the "LIVE FOR OTHERS" message,  but because I no longer need the reminder, thanks to you all.

I regret not being able to be there with you in Hawaii (my wife is 9 months pregnant and I promised I wouldn't stray too far from her side until well after the birth:-), but I look forward to seeing many of you at the next opportunity.

Much, much love and respect to you all.

Steve (Nishida)

Hi Steve,

thank you for always being there to share - how wonderful that Rex will be honored in Hawaii - and will have his place in the Punchbowl.

Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for always giving your time, sharing your thoughts and care, and being a source of unity to us all. I am grateful, as others are, I know.

I am thinking of Rex too, and I am glad he has returned to his beloved Hawaii. I wish I could have been there to honour him today. Like you, I hold such rich memories of a kind, caring, humorous man, a trusted friend, who was always so giving, supportive and encouraging, and whose enthusiasm for life and learning was inspiring. I wish I could be just half the person he was.

I am thinking of Kayo and the girls, and all his colleagues, friends and family who will be there today.

Sending much love,

Liz

Aloha, Seiko:

Thank you so very much for these two lovely photos. So far away, I've been thinking of Rex and his family and wanting to be there with all of you. You've helped to bring Rex and his family and each of you, to me. I'm also grateful to be a member of such a wonderful group of family and friends.

Bobbie Van-Nix

Thank you Steve,

Yes, Rex's goofy photo of himself in his "escape" outfit of cap, mask, big ears and innocence, is still an 8"X10" on my wall in my home office.  It'll stay, as will the many sweet memories I have of him.

It's not surprising that you've been so helpful to all of us, Steve.  You're a totally good man and friend, and your kindness spreads out to all of us. Rex's friends are sending me notes. Seiko Furuhashi sent three lovely photographs, and Elizabeth Parke sent a beautiful message.  And, now you write a lovely eulogy for Rex and share it with me and the rest of us.  I don't feel "so far away" now.  I'm so very grateful to be among such wonderful people; it's a great honor as well as uplifting because it seems----well, of course------that all of you reflect the "Rexiness" of Rex!  No wonder you're all kind, funny, upbeat, and generous.

Your work isn't over, Steve, because I'll ask for another favor:  we will have to have news of your most recent arrival, and photos. This child will grow up with Live For Others already instilled.  Such a sweet present for all of us.

Thank you,

Bobbie Van-Nix
