Exciting News From Aangen
Dear Aangen Community,
It has been a blessed summer here at Aangen filled with loving programming, and a lot of exciting new changes. Although the snow has finally kissed the ground here in Toronto, Autumn is still underway as we count down towards the Winter Solstice. We wanted to take this opportunity to reintroduce our e-newsletter to keep everyone abreast of the valuable work we have been doing at Aangen with all of your loving support! Starting with...
- A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our annual Walk to Heal Hunger. Whether you donated, raised funds, or participated in the walk itself, we were extremely successful on two fronts. Firstly, through your generous donations we were able to raise over $10,000 to fund our local, community based initiatives including: Families in Need ("We help families who are going through a difficult situation especially women experiencing violence, with wrap around supports including: housing, legal, counseling services and much more. We are a client focused organization that honours each person's experience and helps support them into a safe and nurturing life") and our new street based food programs, for example an exciting new collaboration with local Overdose Prevention Sites around the city. Secondly, we made, and distributed over 500 meals to people who live on the street while rallying to raise awareness regarding food insecurity. This year we were even blessed to be visited by our local Member of Provincial Parliament, Bhutila Karpoche, who came out to support Aangen and our mission. It was truly one of the most beautiful, and life changing events we had the pleasure of participating in, and your donations helped make that possible! So, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and the 500 full bellies around our magnificent city.
- The Inner Arts Collective presents: Shaping the Future of Healing: Reclaiming the Past; a symposium organized by healing arts professionals for the community at large. The intention for this symposium is to explore the rich and sometimes painful tapestry of the past, and transform the density that can reside in our legacy into light, so we can weave a co-created, empowering and visionary future. One of the speakers this year will be Aangen's very own Gurbeen Bhasin, who will be discussing solutions for a new world, and a practical response to capitalist greed through social enterprise. Other presenters come from across the GTA, bringing performances, teachings, tools, and processes that will set us up as a healing arts community to create lasting change.
