Friends & Neighbors,
Really liking what was presented tonight regarding the Barton Springs Pool grounds improvement project. They added some more slides to the presentation that really helped in understanding the design. Thought putting the south side ADA trail along the old fence line was brilliant. Watershed stepping up to mitigate the run off from the parking lot is great news. This design will go a long way in routing traffic to allow better care for the trees, providing a beautiful way for the handicapped to enjoy the pool. Will post a link to this improved presentation when it comes available.

Spent an entire day at the pool today volunteer cleaning. Dedicated most of my day cleaning the scum line on the walls hope it makes your next swim a better experience. Very strange phenomena at the pool today, there was a wind blowing upstream that over powered  the low spring flow causing the floating weeds/algae being dislodged during cleaning to accumulate at the shallow end. Made for a challenging day for volunteers using brooms, nets to keep up with getting this stuff cleared up.

Regards,
Steve

Karen,
I will never understand why this is not a good thing with you and the group of folks around you. I like what I am seeing with the design at this stage. I am actively advocating for and am in full support of what is being done. I applaud the support of city council, the efforts of FBSP, PARD, Environmental Board, Joint Subcommittee, Watershed and the contractors that are working to make this happen. I believe that this is a good balance of development and keeping the rural feel of the south side along with recognizing the challenges of increased usage and maintaining the grounds to a higher standard. I am really jazzed about the notion of finally preventing flood waters from entering the pool from that parking lot and soccer field area.

This is a short term project that has a limited scope and funding for improvements inside the fence with some exceptions. My hopes are that as more of the master plan is discussed long term issues like parking, mass transit to/from the pool and improvements to the facilities will be funded and implemented in the future.

I encourage everyone to check out the link for these presentations. I was able to listen to the first presentation and follow along using the documentation with little or no problem. The second presentation had some added detail that made it even more understandable. I am not sure when the second presentation both audio and visual presentation will be available but again I encourage everyone to check it out.

Respectfully,
Steve

Steve,

The meeting last night was full of controversy and dissension and the support you and FBSP show for the plans were vehemently challenged. The plans being ram-rodded through the process of approval involve adding a 6-foot wide paved sidewalk that meanders all over the south lawn and into the woods, replacing fences all around that are not needed, moving the gate (for no good reason other than to make way for the as-yet-unapproved second bathhouse) and creating construction projects all around the pool that will take years to complete and take hundreds of thousands of dollars.
