Dear friends of ARCE-PA,

The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Research Center in Egypt proudly presents:

"A Word to the Wise: Onchsheshonqy Meets Poor Richard"
Dr. Jennifer Houser Wegner, University of Pennsylvania
Saturday, December 12th, 2009, 2:00 PM
Classroom 2, Penn Museum

"Here at the University of Pennsylvania, we are all familiar with Benjamin Franklin -- statesman, inventor, and author. Most of us are probably not so familiar with Onchsheshonqy -- priest of Pre, prisoner, and malcontent.  However, both men are credited with collections of proverbs, sayings, or maxims that reflect both an individual point of view, as well as insight into the times in which each man lived.  This talk will examine Egyptian wisdom literature, in particular, Demotic wisdom, and offer a comparison between Penn's beloved Ben Franklin and his ancient Egyptian counterparts."

Dr. Jennifer Houser Wegner is the associate curator of the Egyptian section at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania.

The event is free and open to everyone.
