Consider this for our topic in the future. How many of you are for
legalisation of prostitution? give your reasons. Brought up the topic
as the other day in roadies, they had used the topic for discussion
and it has the potential of use for a future post. please give your
two cents

I am in Vietnam, where prostitution seems to be a thriving business hidden under covers of massage parlors and even karaoke bars. I mean, it is actually expected from a girl giving a massage to dole out sex for a price. However, one thing I did notice is that there is no such thing as eve teasing or "ched-chad" of any kind out here, which means it is safe for girls here. I don't know if it is legal here or nor, but I am sure something this widespread must have government approval. So, well, I am pro legalisation of prostitution. Because it is about life choice. If a woman is okay with what she does with her own body, it should be up to her. Making prostitution illegal only makes men more desperate for it, which leads to them looking for it in places they ought not to.

I donot think, making it legal will change anything. It is a moral issue and Indians are getting more open minded. I mean people like Sunny Leone are becoming respected. There may be jokes running around her but I'm sure people will behave well when in front of her. Law is the last thing we expect for this change. So, as the society changes law would follow.

I am all for legalisation. As Pramathesh had put it, there won't be much change, but I would like to specify it some more. I mean morally there will not be much change. Those who visit will continue patronising irrespective of whether it is legal or illegal. They will continue hiding their involvment with prostitiutes from their families irrespective of whether Govt endorses it or doesn't, more for emotional aspect rather than tradition or for that matter moral issues. The rapes and molestation will not show a mark decrease either, because respect for a female or to be more specific, for other's females. is not that much deep rooted in our Nation . (no offense to anyone) I am all for legalisation just for the simple reason that it will benefit the sex workers most of whom are in the trade for survival. A nymphomaniac will never have sex for money. A woman who chooses the profession for easy money is also indirectly a victim of circumstances. So ultimately in the whole game, it is the women who are the losers . Not to mention their prosecution. Legalisation will at least offer them some sort of protection from exploitation from the touts, police and all, they will at least enjoy some job benefits, state protection and sorts.
I know socially it will be difficult to digest. I mean if tomorrow my daughter mixes up with a sex worker's child, I will not be so hypocritic enough to say that I will feel great, but yeah, i think I will survive. (I have interacted with sex workers in Tihar and some of them were so genuine, that I used to feel for them) And thats why I think it's high time that we start a social change.

@Manjil and what are those reasons may we ask? :p
@Pramathesh but Law will have to be the first step.
