Of course I do.  Last year Phil and I had a very pleasant night ride there along with 4/500 others.  This year I may not even bother to exert myself on a fixed and take it easy with most of the others on a geared bike.  I think it will be year 7 for me on DD.

We should be there and probably on our new touring bike and therefore
would be taking it easy. We are planing to take everything and the sink
so that we can camp up there, before we are heading back to the smoke on
the Monday.

This would then be my second.

I prefer the sound of taking it easy to Ken on a bike with gears ;-) ... be good to have a few friendly faces, fancy meeting up on the way - an extended FNR? The ride goes out through the Green Man, I think. I'm thinking of going ultra light on my new (not yet got) road bike, started looking at adapting some Tesco 3W LED torches for the run. Although, to be honest, the ride gives me the willies.

Ham - Don't think that DD route goes along High Road, Leytonstone where the Green Man is.  The route is Lea Bridge Road all the way up to Whipps Cross then straight on when it is still Lea Bridge Road and then becoming Woodford New Road and on over Waterworks Corner.  All of that is A104.  High Road, Leytonstone  is the A11.

Ok so they are not very far apart but being on the wrong road you would not see the stream of DD'ers.

What is the new road bike going to be?

Ah, it's my manor, anyway. I normally ride to Epping through South Woodford, but it all meets up at the Castle anyway (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?source=s_q&hl=en&ie=UTF8&geocode=Fdp9EwMdJlIAAA&split=0&msa=0&msid=117648410814257943328.00046654b3f4d2eeba757&ll=51.596695,0.019398&spn=0.037322,0.087547&z=14) . I'd just better make certain I'm not waiting at the Green Man or I might get rather bored.

The bike (courtesy of the gummint bike scheme) is a LeMond carbon fibre, 90% ultegra (cranks are 105). All in all, I'm rather chuffed that Greg LeMond fell out with Trek as - after taking into account the reduction on the "last knockings" reductions on LeMond at On Your Bike, adding back 10% so they have a bit of margin and then taking off the tax etc..... I've ended up effectively with a Madone 4.7 for £600 interest free over a year. I'm hoping to get it this week so I can take it to Calvados - great riding country.

Morning. I've been once during "the rain" two years ago. Phil kept me sane in the second half :p . From memory I think the FAQ page is very accurate in all respects. It is still the longest single ride i have completed. My only issue was running out of steam in the last 20 miles which was a bit tough, possibly due to not eating the right things at the right time. Mark W. Had the right idea - about 10 rounds on jam sandwiches! As a side note, wooly and I discovered that spagetti carbonara and coke are a fairly awesome combination for keeping you charged :)

Best bit - The candles in jars, the random conversations, the cafe on the beach.

Worst bit - not having bright enough front lights. Have two or maybe three flats due to the flint shards in the road on the last quarter.

Unfortunately I think this years DD clashes with my birthday, so I probably won't be on it.

Finally, if anyone sees my back wheel on sale. Kick em in the nuts and say "Hi" from me. It's a mavic 26" black rim with flat spokes (can't remember model) with a slightly unusual "schwalbe marathon supreme" 2.1 semi slick tyre. It went missing from upper street between Tuesday and Thursday. After doing what I never normally do - use only one d-lock.

Paul.
