Where are you guys swimming from/to?  I came across a number of sting rays in the shallows by the marine room last night in about 2 feet of water.  I’d rate the odds of stepping on one to be “high”.  I exited out by the kayak launch area near Vallecitos though and didn’t see a single ray.

 

The water was incredibly clear last night too.  Probably close to 30’ of visibility; we swam from marine room to the cove and could see the bottom (in detail) all of the way across.  It was rather spectacular.  Sighted many leopard sharks, some blue sharks, bat rays, big schools of fish, etc.  Hopefully the visibility holds up, this is possibly the best I’ve ever seen while swimming at the cove.

Hey guys – for lack of time to plan details out in advance, let’s all meet at the cove.  Bring your running, cycling, ballet, and mime outfits (whatever you might want to do as a second activity).  I am strongly considering a Cove-Shores round trip swim, Weinbaum style.  I will most likely add a brief run.  By brief I mean in my tighty whities.
