Abstract: Admissible groups belong to a particular class of graphs of
groups that admit a decomposition generalizing those of graph manifold
groups. In our recent preprint, we show that changing the gluing edge
isomorphisms does not affect the quasi-isometry type of these groups and
under mild conditions on the vertex groups, admissible groups exhibit
large-scale nonpositive curvature. In this talk, I will introduce some
basic notions in geometric group theory, and then sketch the ideas
behind the proofs of the main result. If time permits, I will also
discuss some results concerning subgroups of (extended) admissible groups.
