In Xubuntu 22.04 I see

(HyperDoc) Cannot load font
-adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--18-*-*-*-m-*-iso8859-1 ; using defaul.

Any hint of what debian package I should install?

xfonts-100dpi-transcoded

I'm on Arch (where I don't get the Hyperdoc cannot load font message),
not Debian, and I don't really know anything about fonts, but here are
some wild guesses:

xfonts-traditional
xfonts-terminus
fonts-terminus-otb
xfonts-100dpi
xfonts-75dpi
xfonts-base

In fact, when I realized the messages, I did install that, but without
rebooting the VM, it took no effect. :-(

Now it's working, but can

sudo apt install xfonts-100dpi

without needing to reboot to have it working for Hyperdoc?

I wonder if this is what you need:

    xset fp rehash

If Qian's suggestion doesn't help, I'd try restarting Xorg.

But judging by this Wiki page, `xset fp rehash` is exactly what you
need: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/X_Logical_Font_Description#Font_search_path

I've just tested it in a fresh VitualBox (Xubuntu 22.04). It has no
effect on HyperDoc. :-(

Needs at least restart of xsession or perhaps something else?
