inequ regexs

The last friam conversation about regexs reminded me that almost exactly 18 years ago i posted a puzzle to fun-with-perl about self recognizing regexs (defined as inequ with the implicit puns).  As a result of the discussion yesterday, I think some of you might enjoy the puzzle even though way back then the results were overly specific to perl and not particularly satisfying.
