I'm getting a new Mac, which has one HDMI port and a bunch of USB-C ports.  My old machine has an HDMI, a Thunderbolt, and a couple of USB-A ports.  The Apple salesman suggested a Thunderbolt dock.  There's a ton of them out there.  How do I choose?

I switched from a laptop to a mini workstation and a split mechanical keyboard about a year ago, so I'm not sure if they do the power thing that you want for a laptop, but if they do, not Philips and Del have a number of good monitors with Thunderbolt 4 in and a 2.5gbps ethernet connection plus enough USB ports for connecting keyboard, mouse and extra storage.

I have one of them in all the places I work regularly (one Philips and two Del) , and feel it's more convenient that a separate dock.

But as I said, I'm using a mini workstation so I'm using seperate power bricks either way, so I don't know if these monitors provide enough power over Thunderbolt for a laptop, what you probably want.
