The historic Mercer Oak, believed to have been present during the Battle of Princeton, once stood on the battlefield near what is now Mercer Road. It collapsed from old age in March 2000. An offspring grown from an acorn of the Mercer Oak in 1981 now thrives next to the large stump of the original tree.
This park is a 300-acre Civil War historic site where a ragtag group of 700 Confederate old men and young boys beat the odds and held off an assault by 5,000 Union cavalry on a bridge of strategic importance to Gen. Lee's army, then under siege in Petersburg. Visit the Confederate earthworks and walk the historic bridge trail. Two visitor centers feature 2,300 square feet of exhibits on the area's rich Civil War heritage, Native American archaeological investigations, and wildlife and ecology of the park. The park includes a 1.2-mile self-guided trail through the battlefield and a .75-mile nature trail with two wildlife observation towers overlooking wetlands.

South Mountain State Battlefield seeks to preserve and interpret the first major Civil War battle to take place in Maryland. Fought on September 14, 1862, the Battle of South Mountain was a critical turning point in the American Civil War. The Union victories at South Mountain and Antietam (fought three days later) led President Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. The state battlefield, located along the gaps of South Mountain, includes valuable farm and forestland, and is home to diverse wildlife. Only here does the Appalachian National Scenic Trail intersect a major Civil War battlefield.

Entertaining generations of kids and adults around the greater Houston area, Battlefield Houston is the perfect choice for your next event. Our mobile team has great experience creating amazing battlefields both indoor and outdoor at your location. We can play front yard vs. backyard, local parks, and so much more. If you can think of it, we have probably already done it.
They say when you have to explain it, you aren't doing marketing right. But, we are so different it is worth talking about the best laser tag pricing in town. The competition charges $8 for 12 - 15 minute game time. They don't vary their game play much and it is all about the score. We have a minimum of 30 minutes on the battlefield all the way up to 2-hours with pricing starting at $15. That is a bargain and it gets cheaper the more game time you play.
The Friends will complement, contribute to, support, encourage the use of, and promote the historical interpretation and environmental conservation of the battlefield park. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in historic preservation and the purposes of the Friends. Annual dues are $20 per person.
Major General Lew Wallace and Brigadier General James Ricketts waited throughout the Battle of Monocacy for reinforcements that never came. Where was the rest of Rickett's command? Nearly a thousand men failed to reach the battlefield on July 9.
Slavery was legal in Maryland until November 1, 1864, when voters passed a new Maryland Constitution. To commemorate this event Monocacy National Battlefield will host a reading of the names of those enslaved on the farms that now make up that battlefield and of those men who shipped out from Monocacy Junction to join the United State Colored Troops to fight for freedom. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate in the reading of the names which will begin at 1pm at the Monocacy National Battlefield Visitors Center.
We will begin to update our Park Day map in January 2024 so you can keep up-to-date on local events. The plan presents recommendations on how to better preserve the battlefield's open spaces and historic landscapes. Over 200 historic resources are inventoried within the Brandywine Battlefield including buildings, meetinghouses, fords, and landscapes that were the location of combat and of battle-related events. The plan is presented in two documents below: the main report and a map atlas.
