Failing Ac Lit - 16 total freshman out of 2 classes!!

Here are the students who have missed/not been prepared for 3 Lit Circles (ie...means not doing homework/classwork and not contributing to class)

Angelica L- not prepared for one, absent for 2...falling way behind...what is happening?
Emile- not prepared for one, absent for 2
Isamar- missed 5/5
Claudia M- never shows
Eduardo R- never done one
Abel R- missed 5/5
LaSarah- missed 5/5
10 students currently failing!!!

Cozy- was doing well...only done 1/3 (she is excused for the other two...this is failing work)
Martiza- missed 3
Talena-miseed 3
Mike M- not made one, not made an effort to pass class or do much work period
Lilybeth- missed 3
Hojaira- never made one.
6 students currently failing!

*both too shy to talk in Lit Circles much...need to have a lit circle with me after school to show their knowledge

If they have any chance of redeeming themselves, next week is our final lit circle and will weigh in more heavily to their grade....they must be prepared by finishing book and reading packet ch 25-28 to participate.

Hi All,
So of these 16 students, I didn't get a single one in my Tuesday mandatory office hours.  I had most of my kids show up not totally prepared for Lit Circles.  Not doing homework is a consistent problem.  I don't want to inflate grades...I feel like if they don't do the work, they shouldn't pass... therefore I am considering failing all 16 of these students unless I see major improvements.  Please encourage your advisees to come to my office hours Tuesday and Thursday after school.

PS.  Maritza and Lilybeth did come prepared and stepped up which was great.  Cynthia came pretty prepared but she still needs to do a ton of work before grades are due.
