a recent discovery

In my "Carltonian Concept", I stated: Around a thousand years ago we acquired  a faith-based anti-religious belief system called atheism. 

Since then, reading in Will and Ariel Durant's "The Story of Civilization", I discovered the exact date, stated as Sept. 7, 1303, when secularists invaded the Pope's palace, demanded his resignation, held him prisoner for three days and  plundered his estate.  Will said "the blow-physical or political-given Boniface VIII at Anagni marks in one sense the beginning of 'modern times'" the start of secularism, (now atheism).

It was rather thrilling to have an exact date for a societal shift.
