2. Roots to Rooftop Tour, Sunday, July 28, 1:00-4:00 pm
A school garden, a roof-top garden, and other neighborhood and community gardens will be the featured stops on an upcoming urban agriculture and garden tour throughout the Springfield area.
genHkids, Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Illinois Times, Kumler Outreach, Maldaner's Restaurant, Slow Food Springfield and the University of Illinois Extension will host the Roots to Rooftop Tour: Community Gardens, Urban Agriculture and a Roof-top Garden on Sunday, July 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
This is a free (no registration required), self-directed tour and guests can visit any (or all) of the sites on the tour. All participating garden sites, along with addresses and maps, can be found on the Extension website athttp://web.extension.illinois.edu/units/event.cfm?UnitID=629&EventID=62221
During the tour, free refreshments will be available at Edwards Place Historic Home, 700 North 4th St., Springfield. There will also be an opportunity for people to stop by RealCuisine along the way for ice cream, pie, and cookies, which are items available for purchase. RealCuisine is located at 2028 South 15th St., Springfield.
