Sow & GrowIn the spring, SGA released its new Sow and Grow curriculum, specifically meant to teach students in the garden. Sow and Grow features connections to the Next Generation Science Standards. The new school year is a great opportunity to get out in the garden and learn about botany, science and biodiversity.
Were you a part of a Sow and Grow training in the 2013-2014 school year? If so, please direct any questions about activities and working in the garden to Lydia Mills, Fresh From the Farm garden educator. Whether wishing to start a school or community garden or seeking to better utilize an existing garden space as part of a classroom, this curriculum provides a range of information and activities to help at every stage of garden education.

4. Food Day at Daley PlazaEvery October 24, thousands of events all around the country bring Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food to take action to solve food-related problems in our communities at the local, state, and national level.
This annual event involves some of the country’s most prominent food movement leaders, including chefs, farmers, doctors, teachers, and parents. All of us are united by a vision of food that is healthy, affordable, and produced with care for the environment, farm animals, and the people who grow, harvest, and serve it. We envision a just food system for all and want to celebrate it when it works and help fix it when it’s broken.
Chicago’s Food Day event at Daley Plaza is an annual extravaganza, and a great place to take your class on a field trip. Stay in the loop at
