It is a recurring theme that clients don't seem to "get" the idea that
they can click a link to see an invoice then another to get a pdf.
They expect the pdf to be attached to the email, which is not how
FreshBooks works. To assist with such cases, it would be great if
there were a way through the API to get to the PDF for an invoice.
Perhaps at some point you might add to your <links> a direct way to
get a PDF, just like the [PDF] button on the view invoice page of the
user interface. Then I could use that link to request a PDF and
attach it to an email that I am sending the client in my code.

Thanks for listening!

Awesome idea Peter. I personally really like it. I will run it by the
team, but I can't make any promises.

Hi Peter and Jamaal,

You can check my post from some time ago regarding this, you can do a
workaround to generate the PDF invoice and download to your server and
then either attach to the email or send it to the customer browser.

For more info you can check this: http://community.freshbooks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=7059

Hope it helps!

Any news on this? We need this feature as well.
We want to get a link in our application that would just download the PDF's straight away.

Hi Kevin,

Good news! Although it hasn't "officially" been released (and so isn't in the developer docs yet) you can use the invoice.getPDF call to grab an invoice PDF directly.  :)

Nox,

The call to invoice.getPDF returns no result, is there another way of getting a PDF of the invoice?

Hi Mohannad,

It should send a binary file that you just append a .pdf extension to. Could you tell me what exactly is happening instead? Do you get any response back from us? If so is there an error code or something else?

I am trying to make this work from Java but seem to be getting an empty byte stream returned
Do you have any clues. Or documentation??
