So we have a name - any thoughts on a Logo??? Is anyone an artist?
Do you know someone who can design a logo for us?

Here's my idea - Outline of the State of AK in the background; a
salmon, bunch of produce and maybe a cow, bottle of milk & carton of
eggs all put together like the design of the recyclables - 3
arrows ??? I think the salmon could be shaped like one of the arrows
and the produce probably could to, but I'm not sure how the meat/dairy
aspect could be included.

I'd love to hear what other people envision.

I think the simpler, the better.

I do not like the idea of including a cow as part of the image.  There are so many reasons that cows are not good for the environment.  Also, it does not really seem like a local food to me - not iconic of Alaska.

I love the idea of a salmon and a circle as part of the design.

What do you think about asking some students to submit design concepts for a school project (UAA art students)?  or just putting the word out to local artists, graphic designers and art teachers with a deadline for submission.

From a branding and marketing point of view, we should really nail down every other aspect of this coop (mission statement, goals, purpose, vision, etc) before commissioning a logo.

Erin Hamilton did my artwork and website - www.greenalaskasolutions.com. She is really talented.

Maybe the cow is Jumping-over-the-Moon style on top and the salmon is in one
of the lower corners of the triangle. I do not know if I am serious or not,
it just occurred to me when I read your suggestion....

I actually have too many projects to offer any help with any of this
endeavor or read all of the messages. I do not know how I even got on this
list. It is interesting, but I need to bow out because of time constraints
that are crushing me now. (How do I do that?)

I wish you all well in this admirable goal that I morally support.

Maybe I was put on this list because I am the new editor of the Alaska
Pioneer Fruit Growers??? Humm. Maybe someone can be send an article that
BREIFLY mentions the What, When, Where, How, and contact information for
what you all are trying to do. I plan on being done with the next
newsletter at the end of March. (The following newsletter will not go out
until maybe August or September.)

My two cents. I know of quite a few folks, but they are spendy...but
this cause they might cut a deal. In my experience, with logos...you
get what you pay for.

My experience tells me that simple is better. Especially something
that can look good in black and white. Simple one or two color logos
are great. More colors than that and you get limited in your graphic
design options.

Jenny

Hi Debbie -

Thanks for your suggestions. I have deleted you from the Google group so
you shouldn't get anymore messages. Thanks for your interest.

Hi Mary;
That would be ditto for me as well on Debbie Hinchey's message to you.
Since I live in the valley and won't be using the coop, at least on a
regular basis, I am not going to get involved in the organization either. I
would be happy to provide syrups, local wild jams, etc if you all decide
that you want my products included. I also very much support and admire
what you are doing. Please keep me in the loop, but I can't handle all the
emails right now. Good luck!

Hi Anne - I took your advice on asking some students and sent an e-
mail to the Arts Department at UAA. I'll keep you posted on whether I
get a response. Great idea!

What do you all feel are the most recognizable "Alaska" products?

I've been messing around with vector images and graphic logos and have
some good ideas and leads, but beyond Salmon, I'm having a bit of
trouble nailing down products that have definite Alaska ties and also
have a recognizable outline. Potatoes seem like they would be a good
one, but they are not very visually appealing and when used in
silhouette, could as likely be a rock as a potato. Same with eggs.
Carrots are a possibility? Any other fruit or vegetable related ideas?
Think about things that look good in silhouette.

Thanks!

Rachel
