OS X Sonoma, frescobaldi lost after changing the focus to another app

As the title indicates, I am using Frescobaldi on OS X 14.5 Sonoma (using it on OS X  since ... so many years). The app launches all right, and I am able to use it, edit a file, compile etc.

However, the minute I change focus to another app I am unable to come back to Frescobaldi. The app monitor either says Frescobaldi is not responding, or it will bring back Frescobaldi but with a menu bar reduced to one item "Frescobaldi" alllowing to quit the app.

Anyone experiences the same problem? Anyone has an idea how I can fix this?

Mac OS 14.6.1 (Sonoma), Apple silicon M3 (applies to x86) - Same problem, loses focus after first use.. 

MacPorts user: Frescobaldi installed with MacPorts runs fine.
