midi input on ubuntu

Dear community,

I've installed Frescobaldi 4.0.3 on Ubuntu 22.04. Unfortunately midi input doesn't work.

Despite of that, the program works fine and the midi-keybord also works without problems.

Any ideas?

Aloha.

If you see midi input (flashing light, midi console log) but don't hear sound, it's possibly due to the wrong soundfont.  

However, I have only been able to deal with this problem by trial and error.  Not quite sure what constitutes the 'right' soundfont.  I just try them until something works.

The problem is not the sound (I'm not interested in hearing the music) but the reaction of Frescobaldi.

I want to input music with the midi keyboard and this doesn't work.

It looks like there's an open issue for this; you might want to describe your problem there:

That issue is for 4.0.1 on Windows.  You might want to say that it is still an issue for 4.0.3 on Ubuntu.

1. How did you install Frescobaldi 4.0.3?
I see that Ubuntu doesn't have version 4 yet (so slow! I see why I quit
Debian/Ubuntu many years ago):

The command `frescobaldi -V` will print the useful information.

2. If you start Frescobaldi from terminal and try to use MIDI input, do
you see any message?

To reiterate- I’ve had no luck with midi input in macOS. I would be curious to know if others have not had this problem.
