Hi all and especially translators

Is anybody able to work on translations "recently"?

I see that my last contribution was one year and a half ago.
I'd like to update the italian PO file, but I can't due to this bug:
https://github.com/wbsoft/frescobaldi/issues/1040

If anybody can send to me the it.po file updated from the pot template,
it would be great.

That said, I wonder if the current setup could be improved.
I'm not convinced that merging the application and the user manual in a
single .pot file is a good idea. Most software projects I know keep
them separated. I guess there are good reasons for this.

Also, I see that Frescobaldi uses custom scripts to manage all the
translations.
For the user manual, I could not find much about a "markdown to pot"
python tool.
At least for the application, why not using the standard python
library¹?
The comments in frescobaldi_app/po/mofile.py say that it's inspired by
the Python gettext library but with some additional features. Don't
know if it's still true after 7 years.. I mean, gettext library might
be improved.

.mo files are generated but also tracked in Git. Is this a good
practice?

Hi all

I found a workaround to generate the updated frescobaldi.pot file
(attached):
https://github.com/wbsoft/frescobaldi/issues/1040#issuecomment-415440007

In case any translator needs it.

Cheers
Federico
