Hi,

Up till now I never used the midi-input possibility of Frescobaldi, but
this week I gave it a try. With some help that was successful, only
there is no timing: the length of the notes are not represented.

I understand that is the expected behavior of the Frescobaldi midi
input? That doesn't make it very useful, I would say. Is there any trick
to to take the length of the notes played into account?

with kind regards, Jogchum Reitsma

I think that guessing the correct timing from MIDI events would be
quite challenging.

There was a discussion on this topic years ago:
https://github.com/frescobaldi/frescobaldi/issues/839

The trick could be the following: first enter the note durations, then
repitch them using Frescobaldi MIDI input.

Hi all !

Just my 2 cents if it is of any help...
Usually, I use Frescobaldi midi input if I have some notes to replace. For example, I'm frequently typesetting SATB hymns, for which the rythm is often the same between voices.
Frescobaldi midi input is very helpful for me in this case.

Some may use it by entering pitches on midi keyboard with one hand and durations on numpad with other hand but I'm not used to it.

To enter a (simple) complete voice with duration, I use Rumor in a terminal (connected to midi input and synth using Jack). If I remember correctly I had to build Rumor from source when I installed it couple of years ago.

Cheers !
Yann
