THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG

Sunday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00
p.m.
Admission: FREE **$5.00 suggested donation**

In THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, director Jacques Demy pays loving
tribute to both the Hollywood musical and the French melodrama.

Ripe to bursting with inventive cinematography, swooning musical
numbers and blazing colors and textures, nothing like Demy’s inventive
musical fantasy had ever been seen before, as Bernard Evein’s
production design (“insane with color” – New York Magazine) and Demy’s
own artistry transformed the actual streets of Cherbourg into the most
ethereal of creations; while every line of dialogue, from mundane car
mechanics’ jargon to the transcendence of young lovers’ impassioned
vows, is sung to Michel Legrand’s now-classic score, transforming the
film into a luscious pop art opera.
