I thought some of you might find this article interesting if you haven't already seen it.  I didn't realize there was another initiative besides Frank's to get a French Immersion program in the public schools in SF...with support from the French government!  Unfortunately doesn't look like it has much traction either.  Maybe you were working together and I just didn't know.  Your thoughts/comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Sophie

Hi,
My son is at Claire Lilienthal since last year (first school in SF with this after school program). This program is not working as it should.
Last year was not a big success and this year it hasn't started yet. I don't know what we do wrong at CL... if someone has the answer ?

In public schools they don't want kids from other schools in the after school program. It's very difficult to have enough french speakers in the same school. Right now this only after school that works is PAEFA
The program takes place in a private school and kids from everywhere are welcome.

I know that the EFBA program at Lilienthal has had some difficult times.
However, there are EFBA programs outside of San Francisco that are very
successful, plus one at the Catholic NDV (see http://efba.us for info).
For some reason, working with public schools in San Francisco is more
difficult than in, say, Burlingame. PAFEA also has a program that people
are happy with.
