Please give me 2 days time to provide you with more details. They are still being finalised.

Here is the rough plan for now:

1. 2 day workshop. 30, 31st jan 2009
2. Either in KSRTC office or on Bangalore University Campus
3. All Gove dept heads will be there (police, BMP, BDA, BMLTA etc.. )
4. Some political leaders will also be invited (Cm, transport min etc.. but not sure who will turn up)
5. Experts in cycle inclusive planning will be there.. (EMBARQ, I-CE, IIITD)
6. Representatives from other cities (Delhi, Pune, Nanded) that have bicycle plans will present the activites in theri cities
7. A short video on how bicycle friendly cities are people friendly and liveable will also be shown
8. A SWOT analysis on the bangalore cycling scene will be carried out. : This NEEDS  our participation in big numbers and as thought leaders as we know bangalore cycling scene best :-)

9. A Bangalore Cycling Action Plan will be drafted by all of us along with the bangalore civic agencies, the technical experts and other stakeholders (yes its participatory planning)

Remember this is very good opportunity to get the attention of the system as a whole and propose some good plans, projects, policies towards a cycle friendly Bangalore.

So BIGGER the numbers the BETTER. (Thats one way of signaling that we are really serious about cycling in Bangalore.

So Put on your thinking caps and think what all does Bangalore need to be cycle friendly.

Some of the points that I have in mind currently are listed below. add your to the list and feel free to add/modify the same.

1. Bicycle parking (where ever there is a 2-wheeler parking sign cycle should also be allowed to be parked)
2. Bicycle safety: Insurance cover
3. Bicycle lanes (where ever possible)
4. Motorised transport free sunday mornings (7am - 11 am on sundays no motorised vehicles to be allowed on some roads in the city (no buses, cars, motorbikes.. ) only cycles and pedestrians.. imagine lalbagh on regular roads.)
5. Commute assistance: BMTC buses to have bicycle racks
6. Advocacy: Encourage cycling as leisure, commute and sport activities
7. Velodrome for Bangalore.

please add your wish to the list..

Lets make the best use of this opportunity.
