Caffeine - 11 KB
If you have problems with your PC locking or going to sleep, caffeine will keep it awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver.
The icon it's the leftmost one in the task tray. Double-clicking the icon empties the coffee pot (that's what the icon is) and temporarily disables the program. Double-clicking it again refills the pot, and will keep your machine awake.
Windows 98: Caffeine works by simulating left shift key down and up events every 59 seconds.
Windows 2000/XP: Caffeine works by simulating a left shift key up event every 59 seconds.
Of all the key presses available, shift is probably the least intrusive, and least likely to interfere with your work.

Cas - 40 KB
Drag and drop a folder onto Cas, or run it with a command-line parameter to generate a contact sheet of images in that directory.
This is a new jpg file which contains thumbnails of each of the jpg, gif and bmp images found in that folder. You can see a sample of the output. The background colour can be changed, as can the size of the contact sheet which is created.
You may also just run cas.exe where it is, and you will be asked for the location of a directory you would like to index.
The zip file also contains a registry import file which adds an item to the menu you get when you right-click a folder. Selecting this will then generate the contact sheet in that place. This is the most useful way to use Cas. If you use this, make sure you edit the registry file so it points at where you've saved Cas.

CountKey - 27 KB
Countkey and the associated Keyviewer (shown above) provide a way of keeping track of when you've been active on your PC during the day. Countkey does what it says - counts the number of keystrokes you make every minute and records that information.
Keyviewer can then be used to browse the files which Countkey generates, and display a graph of when you were at your most busy. It details the time of the first and last keypress in a day, and the graph clearly shows when you weren't at your machine - making the coffee or gone for lunch.
Keep Countkey running on your machine all the time, and then run Keyviewer when you want to review your activity - when filling in your timesheet for example.

Pocket Clanger Theremin v1.02 - 179 KB
A FreeWare Theremin for your PocketPC With a real Theremin, the user is able to create music by simply moving a hand in the proximity of a radio aerial, this movement effects the tuning of an electrical oscillator circuit, and thus music can be played with nothing more than gestures of the hand.
A PocketPC doesn't include the means to replicate the radio circuitry capable of detecting the presence of a hand, but it does include a CPU powerful enough to synthesize the analogue circuitry within a theremins sound generation stage.
The Pocket Clanger Theremin is controlled by moving your stylus/finger around on the multicoloured pad with the picture of the Clanger on it:
- Moving horizontally will cause the frequency (pitch) to change.
- Moving vertically will cause the amplitude (volume) to change.
With skill and practice there's no reason why you can't become a virtuoso on this peculiar instrument.

Pocket Cyber Mod - 395 KB
Pocket Cyber Mod is a mod music player for PDA's running Microsoft Pocket PC. Cyber Mod Player is freeware so you can use it and distribute it as you wish provided that you don't sell it.
The sample files of today like mp3 and wma are only possible thanks to cheaper memory (the kids nowadays don't know how lucky they are... etc...). Mod music was developed at a time when storage/program memory was very expensive. A mod file contains a few tiny samples and some instructions telling the computer how to build a tune out of them. The end result is great sounding music that only occupies a miniscule amount of memory. This is IDEAL for smaller computers like PDAs, after all you won't fit many MP3s on your iPAQ but you'll be able to fit thousands of mod files on it.

Pocket Dialer v1.03 - 62 KB
Pocket Dialer is a FREEWARE DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) generator for Pocket PC devices. To save on storage memory, the software doesn't use sound samples, instead it renders its own dual tone sinusoidal samples on program startup.
The frequency combinations for each key can be seen in the table below:
f(Hz) 1209 1336 1477 1633
697 1 2 3 A
770 4 5 6 B
852 7 8 9 C
941 * 0 # D
Simply key your telephone number into Pocket Dialer and press one of the three play buttons. Each play button plays the DTMF stream at a different speed.

sp - 54 KB
sp.exe sets your Windows desktop wallpaper and background colour. It also turns off Active Desktop, enables centered wallpaper rather than tiled, and turns off wallpaper stretching if enabled.
It could be used as a simple way of distributing and enforcing a fixed desktop wallpaper and colour across a business. Put a line to run sp.exe in the global login script, and each machine will be set back to your chosen design as the user logs in.
Similarly, you can use sp.exe to set your backdrop when a system administrator has disabled the desktop background option on your machine.

Stickies v5.0a - 586 KB
Stickies is a PC utility I wrote to try to cut down on the number of Post-It® notes I was leaving stuck to my monitor. It is a computerised version of those notes.
The design goal behind Stickies is that the program is small and simple. Stickies will not mess with your system files, or write to the registry. Stickies stores all information in a single text-based ini file.
Stickies will never support animated dancing figures, or play "Greensleeves". They are instead yellow rectangular windows onto which you can put some text notes. Once created, they will stay on screen until you take them away. Just like a real sticky piece of paper.
Main features:
- Once on screen, stickies will remain where placed until closed, even through reboots
- Stickies appearance can be customised; fonts, colours and buttons may be changed, and styles saved. Stickies can be resized.
- Stickies can snap to each others edges to keep them lined up
- Stickies can be transferred from one machine to another either over a TCP/IP network connection, or by using an SMTP mail server or MAPI client
- Stickies can be hidden for a certain period, until a specified date and time, or to wake every day, week or month, to act as reminders.
- Stickies can have alarms set to ensure you notice them at a point you choose
- Stickies can be transferred to and from your Palm or PPC PDA.
- International language support
- Stickies is small and simple, it writes to a single text file, and does not touch the registry
...and Stickies is completely free!
Translations: Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (standard), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish
Stickies runs on all versions of Windows, from 95a to XP. http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/exsticky.gif

Timer Wizard v1.02 - 400 KB
Please feel free to download, use and enjoy this completely free system tray utility for your Windows PC. Timer Wizard allows you to easily and quickly set a reminder for an event in the future. You can choose how you wish to be alerted. See the instructions below for more info.
Timer wizard is a FREE gift from us to you, we do not expect any payment from you. Timer Wizard was originally written for our own personal use here at the silicon machines offices. We have in fact been using it for over a year in beta version, so we know it's nice and stable. The graphics guy recently re-skinned the application and we thought it was then good enough to put our name to. We were initially going to release it as trialware with a timeout period, but after a meeting and a vote of approval we decided to release it as freeware.
If you use TimerWizard regularly and wish to show us your appreciation then please consider pushing the "visit the bargain basement" button and browsing the bargain basement, you never know you may just save yourself a little cash whilst your there :)
Timer Wizard is guaranteed to be free from any adware or spyware.

VNCHelper - 14 KB
Originally written as a launcher app for VNC sessions onto other machines, VNCHelper is able to launch any application, URL, file or folder. It's as small on your screen as possible, remembers where it's placed.
Each item on the menu has a title, command line and also parameters you can set. For a VNC session, the title might be the hostname of the machine you want to control, the command line the path to vncviewer.exe, and the parameters the command line parameters you need to start a session.
