[Tent City University]

Hello all,

I just wanted to share some thoughts about the next few weeks.

 

As some of you know there will be a global day of protest on the 13th of October. This day has been called by various groups/movements across the world. The day is part of a week - tagged as GlobalNoise. - 12th - 20th October 2012 - see http://www.globalnoise.net/

The idea is for each assembly or group to decide on what direction their protest would take. For example....in some countries the day of action would protest on town squares or town halls. Others would protest on financial districts. People will be asked to bring pots and pans and make a noise - cacerolazo style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacerolazo

 

A group of occupiers in London have decided to participate and focus the week on supporting local groups/campaigns in the London boroughs. Why? Well.....the cuts have hit the public purse - it’s the people outside the City that suffer. Having spoken to a few occupiers and other activists over the last few weeks, it seems like these ideas about moving into the boroughs relate to some of the plans some of us had early this year. It means going out and connecting with others and supporting struggles - just like the Save Leyton Marsh and Friern Barnet library campaigns. I'm not suggesting occupy are not doing this in some way, but we could be doing much, much more. (These are my opinions)

 

Yes, of course Occupy need to be focusing on financial districts and government - but we need to build a mass movement too. The very recent events in Spain and Greece have demonstrated this approach. Groups within the Spanish movement have been putting huge amounts of energy into building assemblies in local communities and supporting people in their concerns. Then working as a much wider group.

.....this would then support the TUC march/rally on the 20th. After that - well who knows?

 

From the 13^th to the 20^th the main areas of interest are - housing, public space, environmental issues, state education and the NHS.

If you have an interest in these areas please help us in our research.

Last year, most of us were all strangers. (Some of us still are!)

We were thrown into something beautiful, chaotic and inspiring - but, inevitably, the summer has meant that we haven't got together, so some of you may be unaware that there were plans afoot for this time. 

Everyone is welcome to attend the regular planning meetings at 3pm every Sunday at Lincolns Inn Fields.
