Afterinstalling Windows 10 today my WiFi will not connect. I have tried updating the driver (Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adaptor) and it tells me its upto date. im assuming this driver is the issue but not sure how i can fix this.
However, the problem must be in windows network settings , because if I drop my LAN connection (fiber...) the Wifi connectivity stays on, as I would like to. Running both at the same time leds to drop in wifi connectivity, as explained earlier. So its a matter of network hirarki.
My laptop's model is Envy m6 1125dx, recently I've been experiencing a wifi issue with my laptop not being able to find any wifi signals at all. Today, I performed a system restore but the problem was still not fixed. I noticed Ralink 802.11bgn wifi adapter is missing from Device Manager afther the system restore and its driver was not installed. So I went ahead and downloaded a driver from HP support with the name sp58374.exe. All installation files were successfully extraced into SWSetup folder under C drive but when I tried to run Setup.exe InstallShield will display preparing for install for 2 - 3 seconds, with the progress bar only half way complete, then it closes itself. There were no error messages or anything, Installshield just closes itself and nothing comes after that. I've tried to intall the driver after a clean boot but sadly I had no luck of installing after many attempts. I appreciate any help I can get thanks for reading my post!!!!
The parts list indeed indicates your notebook came with a Ralink wireless adapter and if it is not listed in the network adapters category in the device manager nor is a device showing up listed as a Network Controller under an Other Devices category in the device manager, the card has probably died on you and needs to be replaced.
I performed another system recovery yesterday, wifi worked fine for 8 hours straight until I installed Norton then the same problem came back which prompt me to perform another system recovery today. Before yesterday's recovery, I had all the same symptoms showing a dead adapter and yet yesterday's recovery fixed it somehow. But this time I noticed Ralink driver was not included as part of HP recovery manager, so I suspect wifi adapter driver wasn't installed at all when I performed the recovery today.
This might sound silly but it's true. The problem is not with wifi driver, it's acutally with positioning of the laptop. When it's placed on a flat surface wifi works 100% of time. But when the laptop is slightly tiled forwards me wifi will break within 2 minutes. Returning it to a flat surface won't fixed the problem but if I remove the battery wait for a few seconds then put it back in, wifi will return to normal. I've tested this repeatedly and it behaves like that everytime.
I dont know whether it will work for u.but i solved for myself.i did everything whatever i found on help .but nothing worked.finally i downloaded driver from microsoft site and installed it.now whenever it disappears i dont go anywhere but program and features in control panel and select ralink driver and click under this ,change option and it works fine.
I have install the Ubuntu 20.04 OS and for a week I try to install the driver for ralink technology corp. mt7601u wireless adapter ubuntu 20.04 without success. I tried dozens of methods but no one work. The device worked fine on Windows 10.
Error: mt7601u_mcu_wait_resp timed out
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be an easy solution to ^this. You can read about it here and if you're willing to try building your own kernel module, maybe you can solve it:

Hello.
I have a problem with my wifi adaptor.
The problem is this : when I boot my pc ( from shutdown mode) all thing ok and my wifi adaptor finds the modems and It connect automatically to my network but when I restart from windows or linux to boot to the linux , then my wifi adaptor light is turned on after booting to linux but not finding the modems to connect.
I should say that I dont have any problem with this wifi adaptor on my windows 10 and 11.
And I should add this : I test other wifi adaptor and it works with no problems but this adaptor have problem after restart to boot to linux !
I should say that I had this problem in other distros too and in garuda I have problem in connecting to network( because the driver not installed on garuda like other distros) and one of the admins says to install rtw88-dkms-git and that problem fixed that it reconnect to net randomly).
but as I said I have problem after restart that my adaptor not find the modems and I should always replug my wifi adaptor to find my modems after restart mode.
Running Windows in a dual boot can often cause wifi problems. You will need to ensure all wifi powersaving in Windows and fastboot are disabled. Search the forum for directions if you are unsure how to do that. Post your exact steps you took to do this.
I should say that I had this problem in other distros too and in garuda I have problem in connecting to network( because the driver not installed on garuda like other distros) and one of the admins says to install rtw88-dkms-git and that problem fixed that it reconnect to net randomly).
then you mean what when you said to me ,I already posted this once yesterday?
and what driver I should install for my wifi adaptor?
because in the below link its link for similar drivers not worked.( the link not shows any package on arch aur website)

ok but now I am on garuda linux !
and because of that I make this topic.
the thing that was confusing me is that when I didnt install rtw88-dkms-git , my wifi adaptor connecting to internet but I think it was disconnecting and again connecting and connection not stable and disconnecting much and after I install that driver and then my wifi working well and it has just not working after reboots to garuda linux like that I see this behaviour on ubuntu too( I didnt install driver at ubuntu for wifi ) .
some mins ago I uninstalled rtw88-dkms-git and then reboot , then I see that my wifi adaptor not working at all !
even when I replug it.
what is the problem here ?
and what driver would you suggest?
I think you mean that rtw88-dkms-git cant make the ralink rt2870/rt3070 working?
but if you want I reinstall it again and say it is working or not after installation of that driver?
for me this is a question how my adapter working with driver ?!
after I uninstalled that , then my wifi not working with rt2870/rt3070 adapter!
is rtw88-dkms-git installed by default on garuda linux?
on ubuntu I see this behavior that my wifi adapter working but after restart that was not working and I need to replug that.
when I installed rtw88-dkms-git my wifi act like how in ubuntu.
and when I uninstalled it dont act like ubuntu and other distros.
because that it was question for me and I dont know what happend?!
Do not keep referring to any other adapter on this thread anymore. I do not want to hear about this other adapter model again. We are only dealing with the adapter you were running when you ran the garuda-inxi command. Do not bring up any adapter other than the rt2870/rt3070 adapter listed in your inxi as this only muddies the water. Do not connect any other wifi device while troubleshooting is in progress.
Be sure that MAC address randomization has been disabled. Search the forum for instructions on how to do that. Reboot after disabling randomization. Report on exactly how you did that.
Thanks.I wil do this codes and tricks and say the results.
but my bios version is the latest stable version.
I check now the asus website and it gives just a new beta bios version and I think we should wait until it gives the stable version.
I reached out to a more experienced embedded linux engineer to look into you specific question. While we are waiting for a response I did find this thread that might help with getting your usb wifi adapter working.
The last issue to resolve is the WIFI Adapter Issue. I tried to follow the procedure that you pointed me to, but I could not successfully build the kernel (new one in which the Ralink driver support is enabled)
But both commands return errors and i am unable to proceed further. I am primarily running Windows 10 Pro 64Bit, Vivado 2015.4 Webpack and I installed Ubuntu recently and don't have permission to run Vivado on this OS. (This means i can not install ARM GNU tools from Xilinx)
Since the link that you sent me in the previous post aims to build a new kernel (zImage); I am kindly requesting you to spare me the convoluted process of setting up the toolchain and building the kernel for the zybo. Please send me the kernel (built and tested) for Zybo configured to boot linaro. (as done in the zybot tutorial)
Unfortunately, you will need to wait until next week for a response from an engineer that is more experienced in embedded linux. They are out of the office with little to no internet this week. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If not, please try using those binaries. If that doesn't fix the problem, please reboot the zybo (with the wifi adapter already installed) and then execute dmesg at the terminal. Copy the output into a file and please attach it to your next post.
I would suggest to use Petalinux. We have a few petalinux project versions for the Zybo in the Petalinux Support for Digilent Boards. The readme file has a quick start guide that will help you get petalinux up and going on your zybo.
I'll admit I haven't used a Linaro image in a while, but I used to start by finding an armhf image here that seemed suitable for my needs: . Here is one that is an example of a good, light-weight desktop that is built around Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: -armhf/16.04/linaro-jessie-alip-20160428-22.tar.gz . Then I would do the following to get it to work with my Petalinux system:
