Meraki has changed their sales strategy - it's all about the "cloud"
now. I suppose they are giving up on the "next billion people" (maybe
they didn't quite understand that poor people don't have credit cards
and an extra $100/device to blow). Good luck with the hotel wifi,
Meraki!

there is a Meraki of GSM that is going to bring "Microtelecom for the
next billion users" - http://www.vnl.in/. I have done a bit of
research on OpenBTS as well and considering the economic and
infrastructure realities common in "developing" countries, it would
seem GSM is a much better solution for overcoming the "digital divide"
in most cases. just my opinion. not sure it is relevant in Canada as
you have to be super rich to buy spectrum.

It would be nice to get an international development team going for
VONIC. I had one budget where we put in $15,000 to start up new cities
first in North America but very quickly in Latin America.

it would be nice to do something in Vancouver...I mean anything - like
run 1 hotspot. Only Vancouver assholes like us would argue about
opensource and politics when people really just want on the fuckin
net.

its $400/month to get a 5Mbps connection from Metrobridge. Slap up 2
or 3 outdoors (Meraki, Merhaki or Open-mesh...doesn't matter that
much) on the roof and see what happens.

or create an international parecon telco franchise...whatever is easier
