"A cyclist has vowed to keep riding bareheaded after she successfully fought fines stemming from “nanny state” helmet laws in a case that has embroiled the Attorney-General."

I can't tell because of the paywall whether this is new or old news

Anyone got access can repost it here?

Nik, I found it dating 24 October 4.08pm
Still paywalled. I cut and pasted the info into Google.

This is from the print edition (well a digital version of it), not the website:

Yes, it happened yesterday. Sue messaged us yesterday to say the case was dismissed. She is going to write it up on her blog when she has received legal advice on how to write it.

I haven't been able to talk to her on the phone. As soon as she blogs about it, we will be putting it on the facebook community page and the members forum.

Fantastic result, I'm particular pleased that Sue has a win which must be good for her fighting spirit.

I don't understand the article "$95 fines" (thanks for the reprint, Nigel). How did they get away with $95?

I also don't understand how police would have standing to do anything about the rules of Centenial Park Trust, they aren't likely to be sworn in as by-laws officers. Police in Victoria for example can't touch me for riding my bike where the local council has banned it in their "gardens" for example.

I have no doubt Sue will give us a very detailed account that will enlighten on all these points.

We have a similar situation in Victoria.  You can't be fined for riding your bike unless you are on a "road related area", and most parks are not (roads within parks excepted).
