On today's hangout, I mentioned this project, which I got to visit last weekend :
Basically, the Wynwood Walls happened when someone named Tony Goldman bought a bunch of buildings up so he could put up art and make that area in Miami a destination for art.
Along with Tony Goldman (landowner) and Jeffrey Deitch, SF's own Barry McGee also contributed to the project. It's totally transformed the area - it's truly a legit scene down there.
They do Second Saturdays (like Oakland's Art Murmur) and there's lots of new galleries there. There is also synergy with Art Basel - the annual art festival is just a few blocks away from the Wynwood Walls.
